The Super Takuma series fully automates the series of processes from shutter release to aperture and aperture-opening restoration operations.

The lens is composed of 6 elements in 5 groups.

The minimum focusing distance is 17.7165inch.

It is one of the easiest lenses for beginners to disassemble.

This page explains the disassembly procedure of the Pentax Super-Takumar 55mm F/1.8 with images.

There is one thing that must be done before disassembly.

Attach the rear cap to the lens.

Disassembly performed without installation is dangerous because it may cause damage to the lens.

☆The lens being disassembled in the video above is the Super-Multi-Coated Takumar, but the disassembly procedure is the same as for the Super-Takumar.

Disassembly of front element

The disassembly procedure is shown from the front element side.

Removal of name plate

Using a rubber opener, rotate and remove the nameplate.

Put your weight on the rubber opener.

80% of pushing force

20% of the power to rotate

Turn the rubber opener with the above force distribution.

What to do if the name plate cannot be removed by the above procedure.

If the nameplate does not rotate due to sticking, stick a very small amount of anhydrous ethanol into the nameplate using a syringe or the like.

Then turn the nameplate in the same manner again, using the rubber opener.

Disassembly of front element group

Using an adjustable wrench, remove the first front element hold down.

80% of pushing force

20% of the power to rotate

Turn with the same force distribution as when you opened the name plate.

If it loosens, replace the adjustable wrench with a bamboo skewer or similar tool and turn it.

Reduces the risk of scratching the lens.

The image above shows the second element from the front.

Pull out the first lens with a lens sucker.

Don’t forget the front and back orientation of the lens.

If you put it back together by mistake, it will not be in focus.

Use an adjustable wrench to separate the front element group.

Remove the second lens holder with an adjustable wrench.

If it loosens, replace the adjustable wrench with a bamboo skewer or similar tool and turn it.

Using a lens sucker, pull up the second lens.

The lens of the front element group can be cleaned in this state.

Disassembly of rear element

Using an adjustable wrench, remove the first rear element hold down.

As with the front element, this is done with 80% force to push it downward and 20% force to rotate it.

If it loosens, avoid damaging it with a bamboo skewer or the like, not with an adjustable wrench.

Remove the first rear element hold down.

Pull out the first rear element with a lens sucker.

Do not mistake the back and front of the lens.

If you put it back together by mistake, it will not be in focus.

These are the steps for disassembling the PENTAX Super TAKUMAR 55mm F/1.8.
